Loose Threads, Vol. 6 (Best Blogs of January ’09)

August 1st 2009 in Best Of: Loose Threads

blog-words

Yup, it’s the end of yet another month, which means it’s time to dig in the vaults and unearth some of the best blogs from the archives (aka the Sock Drawer). For those that missed the memo, this is a end-of-the-month series called Loose Threads. Basically, it’s my way of letting new and old Sock Heads catch up on a few good posts (IMO) that may have fell through the cracks. Just look at it as a chance to reminisce with your boy, NWSO.

This month I’m turning the calendar back to January ’09, which was actually the month I moved over from Blogger and re-launched the site as an official dot com (Yeah!). Hard to believe that was eight months ago. If something you read below moves you, feel free to leave a comment as I read them all and always appreciate input from you guys/gals. As always, you can search my Sock Drawer at any time or go through the various sections below to see what discussions and topics you may have missed. There’s also the search engine at the top of the page where you can look for specific topics as well.

If you need to reach me for anything you can hit me on my email, which you can get from the toolbar above or by CLICKING HERE. Feel free to holla at me there with blog suggestions, feedback on the site, submitting a guest blog or any other questions as well. I try my best to get back to folks as soon as I can, so be patient if it takes a little while.

You can also get daily email alerts on new posts by subscribing to the blog HERE, follow my random thoughts on Twitter HERE, or join my various online networks on MySpace, FaceBook and BlackPlanet. There’s also the FaceBook fan page and a blog network page for faithful readers to stay connected. Feel free to hit me up on any or all of those pages, just be sure to introduce yourself as a reader/sock head by sending a quick note with your friend request to avoid going through my tedious screening process. ☺ Anyway, without further ado, enjoy Loose Threads, Vol. 6.

Sincerely yours,

NWSO

P.S.
The 30 in 30 Blog Marathon (Pt. 3) is just three weeks away. This year I’m doing two blogs a day for 30 days straight. Get familiar with last year’s marathon HERE.

A Picture’s Worth, Pt. 1-3
One of my most unintentionally controversial posts. Started off as a simple story about a man trying to deliver a gift unannounced, but things got hairy when the real-life woman the story was based on actually commented and barked on me. CLICK HERE for the three-part drama.

Is Kissing More Intimate Than Sex?
I’ve heard various women say how they’ll sleep with a man but save kissing for someone they love. What kind of backward ass mess is that? CLICK HERE to see my take on this foolishness.

Meet the Parents (When’s the Right Time?)
Getting introduced to someone’s parents is a big step in a relationship, but when is the right time? CLICK HERE to see why I think this can make or break a romance—plus listen to audio of my radio interview on the subject.

It’s a Weird Day For Me (Death Anniversary)
My father never played a major role in my life, but my grandfather did. On the 22nd anniversary of his passing I paid tribute to the man that made me a man. CLICK HERE.

Sometimes I Forget (The Power of My Words)
Writing about my crazy experiences is a double-edged sword, while I choose what I share the people in my life that I include don’t have much say in the matter. After offending a good friend, I took a moment out to reflect on how my words effect others. CLICK HERE for my conclusion.

Sex With the Ex
50 Cent said “If I can hit once, then I can hit twice.” For the most part, he’s right. Maintaining friendships with exes is tricky because the familiarity and intimacy can rekindle old flames. CLICK HERE to read about the pros and cons of sleeping with an ex.

Dear Barack (Beware the Dinkins Factor)
On the eve of Barack Obama’s swearing in as president, everyone was ecstatic about the US’s first African-American president. However, using former NYC Mayor David Dinkins, who took office right after a corrupt predecessor, as an example, I sent him a warning message about what hurdles may lie ahead. CLICK HERE.

Inauguration Regrets (Why I Didn’t Go)
Everyone and their mama descended upon Washington, DC to witness Obama’s historic inauguration. Any time someone asked me if I was going, I replied with a resounding no. CLICK HERE to read why I didn’t and didn’t even want to go.

She Won’t Spend the Night
There’s nothing better than cuddling after a nice hot and sweaty sex session, but some people prefer to get dressed and bounce. CLICK HERE to see why this girl’s constant post-sex dip had me so confused.

Who Cares About Their Ex’s Love Life?
Breaking up is hard to do. It’s even harder when you’re constantly reminded of how deeply in love they are with someone else, while you’re still stuck in single town. CLICK HERE to see how you can cope.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All… Well, Actually
Dudes love braggin’ about what their packin’ or have delusions of grandeur. Sadly, some go so far as to buy Magnums when they know they don’t have it like that. CLICK HERE to see my rant about the dangers of guys who wear baggy condoms.

Can’t Buy My Love (Upside to a Recession)
For every negative there’s a positive, right? Well, leave it to me to find the upside to a recession. CLICK HERE to read how I feel that having less money makes men refocus on romance instead of finance.

Morning Monologue: I Got Fired & Inspired
The day I had been fearing finally arrived and I got laid off from my job. Rather than wallow in self-pity and doubt, I hit the ground running and set out to take over the world one blog at a time. CLICK HERE to find some inspiration from my experience.

Am I Too Old For Hickies? (It’s Just a Love-Bite, Baby)

If you read yesterday’s post, you’ll already know that I had a pretty long week but I made it through to blog another day. During the course of my tri-borough trek from Brooklyn to Queens to Brooklyn to Manhattan and back to Brooklyn—which started at 5am mind you—I got the opportunity to people watch.

One thing [...]

Should Public Displays of Affection Be Outlawed?

Maybe it was because I wasn’t in the best of moods. After waiting seven hours for a seven-minute interview all I wanted was to get home to my bed. The last thing I wanted to see was the pleasantly plump couple sitting across from me on the train making out all the way from 42nd [...]
