DAY 29: Ode to the Big Girl 86/90

September 30th 2008 in 30 in 30, Pt. 2, Life, Relationships/Love, Writing/Fiction

Let me preface this by saying I’m not a “chubby chaser” or anything of the sort, but the other day I saw a woman that some might consider a “big girl” that caught my eye. She wasn’t big in the sense of obese, but big in terms of height and just the overall “solidness” of her frame. She was older, pretty in the face, had her hair done and a well put together outfit. She was proof positive that just because someone is a “big girl,” it doesn’t mean that she can’t have it going on. It got me to thinking, are there any plus-size sisters that do it for me?

Although I’m a slim guy of average height and not trying to be towered over by my woman, there are a few plus-sized sisters that have caught my eye. I’m a brother that can appreciate some meat on a woman’s bones as long as it’s healthy and she maintains some sort of keen fashion sense—that goes for any woman regardless of size—you’re okay in my book. In terms of attraction, mental compatibility is always the most important thing, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say physical attraction didn’t play a major role as well. As long as a woman is shapely and confident enough to turn me on when she’s Naked With Socks On we should be good to go. The lady lumps just gotta be ladylike and not just lumps (Sorry).

There are plenty of women that don’t fit the stereotypical mold that are quite attractive. I see them every day in my travels and more and more of them are starting to get into the spotlight. It’s like the powers that be are finally rethinking that outdated model from the World War II era that has long been the benchmark for what the “average” size for a woman is. It’s long overdue, because when you have a chart that says the average woman is a size 8 when most real women today are a more like a size 12, it’s was only a matter of time before the staunch world of fashion and entertainment caught on.

In honor of this new era of the big girl, I decided to compile my own personal list of sisters that some might consider “plus-size” but I feel have it going on. Fellas, chime in if you feel these ladies do it for you, too. Who said big can’t be beautiful? (Sorry, Mo’Nique didn’t make my list:).

JILL SCOTT
Ms. Scott is just a beautiful woman with a glowing personality and aura.
Anyone that can’t see that is just plain blind.

JENNIFER HUDSON
J-Hud is a definite looker. While she might be a little too hood for Hollywood
at times, she’s all good in my book.

TOCCARA JONES
Personality for days—among other things—but this former ANTM
contestant’s biggest draw is her confidence.

JORDIN SPARKS
Jordin is a definite cutie with a warm smile, she seems comfortable in her own skin and
can sing to boot… How I’m supposed to breathe with no air, no air…

MIA AMBER DAVIS
You might remember Mia from her role of Rhonda in Road Trip (see main pic above), but she
definitely holds it down for the big girls as an accomplished plus-size model.

Be sure to check back in tonight for the Evening Epilogue and then tomorrow for the FINAL THREE POSTS of the 30-day blog marathon

all dimes. technically 3 out of the 5 can be considered thick, not a 100% ‘Big Gal’. but remember obi won, everything that is good aint for you. I know what I like and feel comfortable with; i’m attracted to sistahs with a dancer or trackstar’s frame. i’ve flirted and gone the extra mile with big girls but when it comes down to it, they just don’t do it for me. Some big girls be grubbin hard! I can appreciate a sistah with an appetite, but with big girls it’s almost disturbing…borderline comedy. I don’t know if it’s too much body weight, questionable health, lack of flexibility or what….

The term “chubby chaser” should never be used again. We are all, all woman, meatier but still all woman. When you break women up into catergories based on their size you are doing more of a diservice to us and your self. Because to be honest all that matters is whether you the individual finds the person attractive and whether you like the personality and character of that person. hmmmmm.

Ms. D,

I feel you but mainstream will still consider her think, plus her, uh, top heaviness, definitely gives the allusion of her being bigger that she is too…

Taneda,

i totally hear ya, and meant no offense. that’s why i put a lot of stuff in quotes to denote the terms society has put out there, not necessarily my personal vocabulary choices..

ROOO to the big girls

But on a serious note, I’ve seen a few big girls who hold it down much better than the skinny ones. Some fierce dressers, smart, educated, the whole nine. Very Flexible too.

I love me some J Hud. Jill Scott is beautiful. I remember seeing this chick one time. She was definitely heavier than my usual, but I couldn’t help but look at her. She was a cutie in the face.

I don’t know… I am feeling some kinda way about this… I ain’t mad…but I ain’t glad either…

As a big girl, size 16, but coming down slowly (only wanna get to 12). I ain’t really seeing/feeling how we want or need your empathy/sympathy. Which is what it sounds like (not just the blog/the comments too)… Trust me, most men are not doing us any favors.

Big girls such as myself, like the ones you describe (dress our ass off, smart, funny, etc…) we have NO problem getting men. Trust me, I am juggling two hotties right now. I think that men expect larger women to have low self-esteem, and maybe that’s how we got fat? For me, I have a lot of big women in my family. We are some solid sisters, my daughter who is almost 13, has her dad’s body and is a stick. I work out 6 days a week, am healthy, and don’t stuff my face with food. I don’t need a chubby chaser following me, because I know how to not get caught.

Nah, Biba,

i wasn’t trying to tos sout any empathy for anyone. Just showing some love to sisters that society doesn’t always give praise too. I can’t control my commenters and can only speak for myself, that was my intention to show some love not empathy….

Appreciate your voice/opinion none the less

It’s all about how you present yourself and what you’re comfortable with. Chapzilla, flexibility is not an issue for all “big girls.” You can trust me on that one. Many women are considered plus size because they are very curvy. Hips, thighs and large breasts don’t make you fat-it’s where you wear your meat that makes the difference. Big ups to the BBW!

I just want to say, you like who you like and its not up to what others “opinions” say is the right choice..I am a beautiful full figured woman, that can pull the best of them and rock the socks off also..I was given the name Ms Juicy G by the fellas that knew me in the hood..But since growing up and moving around I must say, I get more attention then I have ever before..Some men are in love with a juicy girl and others just want to try and see what all the hoopla is about..I’m educated, classy, professional and I hold it down for all the juicy ladies out here..Don’t knock it til you try it and even if you don’t want to, don’t knock the ones who do..Everyone deserves to feel good about themselves be it skinny, petite, tall, big, whatever the case may be..We were all created for a purpose, so show love to all women period, we have come a mighty long way! And in the words of my guy Katt “Don’t hate b*****s cause my s*** is luxurious..lol”..You all be blessed and make good choices..Ciao!!

I am so tired of people letting themselves get brainwashed into hating big women; yes I said “HATE”. Some of the comments I have seen online are cruel and vicious. To tell the truth, I have never met a big woman who didn’t have a man. And all fat women are not loud, ignorant and can’t dress. I have been on both sides of the coin; small (but not skinny) and big, which I am now. I have been complemented by the way I look–and even though for health reasons I am trying to lose weight, I still love me and my husband is not a “chubby chaser”. How patronizing! I am a loving, pretty, intelligent sexy woman and that is what he “chased.”

Mr. Naked with Socks On,
It amazes me that you even feel the need to “show some love to sisters that society doesn’t always give praise to” as if this is a special group of women that require or asked for your validation. How about an ode to “Women” or just “Sisters” (as you stated)? Why is it necessary to pigeon hole a woman based on her size? And don’t try to take the sting out of repeating the term “chubby chaser” because you are still contributing to its negative connotation by giving it life. Ignorance can be forgiven and changed through education but nothing can be said for stupidity.

Well, to answer your question I felt the need just as the the blog said. I saw a sister on the train that some might consider “plus-size” but i just saw her as beautiful and it sparked the idea to write about that because I figure the average brother would only see her size and not her beauty. That may or may not be the case, but that’s how I felt and that’s what I wrote. I meant this post as something to praise beauty in all sizes. And the reason I felt the need to “show some love” is because society typically doesn’t. So should I have just left my feelings to myself when so many other sisters found a smile in this post?

As for the “chubby chaser” term, I truthfully had no idea people viewed that as negative until posting this. I was with some friends last night and my homegirl actually said she was a “chubby chaser” because she liked big guys with big bellies.

And if you look at any of the offensive or questionable words used in post they were in quotes, denoting that they weren’t terms I invented or meant any malice by, just the ones society uses and everything else I wrote was going against what society says about women they label as “plus-size” etc.

I meant it as an ode, tribute and praise, sorry you took it differently… But I still appreciate/respect your opinion

HOLLA!

I’ll never tease you again about it! LOL

I used to be a big girl, now I’m just thick-than-a-muthafucka but will always be a big girl in my heart, even though my homegirls kicked me out the club, make me sit in the middle now, have me “run upstairs and get it for me, please” and look at me sideways when I try to go to the bbw parties. :-(

Wow it’s strange how u felt the need to open up with “Let me preface this by saying I’m not a “chubby chaser” or anything of the sort”

Is there something wrong with being one that I wasn’t aware of.

Well I made myself clear on ur BGT blog 6/29/09, I don’t think I need to continue *sigh* & *smh*

Avatar

@Shani

yeah, through writing this I learned that “chubby chaser” was offensive. I had no idea. I just thought it was the common term used to describe someone that prefers heavy set women. I actually used it to try and switch up terminology so I wasn’t saying the typical terms like “fat” etc, which I didn’t want to take away from showing love to some plus-size sisters I felt were hot.

As for the preface, I can appreciate beauty across the board but I was just saying it wasn’t a fetish or anything like that. NOT that’s ANYTHING is wrong with that.

At any rate, I wrote this almost a year ago. People definitely grow and change over time.
